We repair and replace Viking keypads and intercom units throughout San Antonio, and we usually have the parts on the truck. Most Viking keypad or intercom repairs run between $185 and $420 installed, depending on the model and whether we’re swapping a component or the whole unit. You’ll get a written price before we touch anything, and we can typically have it working the same day you call.

The way most San Antonio homeowners discover this problem is simple: the keypad stops reading codes, or the intercom goes quiet while the gate still opens from the remote. One day the delivery driver presses the call button and nothing rings at the house. Or a family member’s code that worked for two years suddenly gets three error beeps. The gate operator itself is often fine. The failure is in the keypad’s membrane, the intercom’s speaker, or the wiring between the pedestal and the control board.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
We work on the full range of Viking access hardware found on San Antonio gates: the E-30, E-35, E-50, and E-60 series entry phones, the K-1900 series keypads, and the W-1000 and W-2000 wireless units. The compatibility gotcha with Viking is that the keypad and intercom are usually separate modules that share a single mounting plate in the pedestal, and the plate dimensions changed between the older E-30 series (2005 – 2012) and the current E-50/E-60 line. If you’re replacing just the keypad and keeping an older intercom, the part numbers have to match the mounting hole spacing, not just the voltage.
Viking labels every unit on the back of the faceplate with a model number and a date code. If you can read that label, we can usually identify the part over the phone. If the label is sun-bleached (common on west-facing San Antonio driveways), we’ll match it by measuring the plate. One thing worth knowing: Viking OEM parts carry a premium and a longer lead time, but there are quality aftermarket membrane keypads and speakers that fit cleanly and last just as long in our climate. We’ll show you both options and let you choose. We’re an independent repair service, not affiliated with Viking, but we stock Viking-compatible parts because San Antonio homes keep calling us with Viking gates already in the ground.

Signs Your Viking Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Codes work only when pressed very hard. The membrane switch layer inside the keypad has worn thin or cracked. You’re pressing through a failing contact. It’ll get worse, not better.
- The intercom rings but you can’t hear the person at the gate. The speaker in the pedestal has corroded or the voice line inside the direct-burial cable has broken down. San Antonio’s clay soil shifts, and older cable runs without conduit are prone to this.
- You can hear them, but they can’t hear you. The microphone gain has drifted or the mic element is dead. Often it’s the foam wind filter disintegrated into the mic hole after years of Texas sun.
- Error beeps or no response on certain digits only. That’s a failed carbon pad on one or two keys, not the whole board. We can often rebuild the keypad instead of replacing it.
- Intermittent function after rain. Water has found its way past the faceplate gasket. San Antonio gets everything from drought to downpour, and the gasket dries out and cracks in the heat between storms.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Viking keypad and intercom work runs in San Antonio right now:
- Membrane keypad rebuild (E-50/E-60 series): $185 – $265 installed
- Full keypad replacement including faceplate: $240 – $330 installed
- Intercom speaker or microphone element swap: $195 – $290 installed
- Full intercom module replacement (E-50/E-60): $330 – $420 installed
- Pedestal rewiring or repair of a shorted voice line: $140 – $210 plus any trenching if required
Every number here includes the part, the labor, and the service call. You’ll see the exact dollar amount in writing before any work starts, and nothing gets added after the fact. We’re part of the Cedarwell family and every repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it isn’t right, we make it right, no argument. Most keypad rebuilds take about an hour. A full intercom replacement runs closer to two.

There are a couple of things you can safely check before calling. If the keypad is completely dead, check the breaker for the gate operator. A surprising number of “dead keypad” calls in San Antonio are just a tripped GFCI in the garage. You can also look at the keypad face for visible cracking or a loose gasket ring. That’s usually confirmation the part itself has failed.

What we’d rather you not do is open the pedestal and start probing wires. The keypad and intercom share a low-voltage bus with the control board inside the operator cabinet, and a wrong short across the wrong two terminals can take out the control board itself, which turns a $240 keypad repair into an $800 board replacement. That’s the honest math. If the keypad or intercom is acting up, call us at (325) 252-5195 and we’ll come look. The estimate is free, and we’ll have the parts on hand when we arrive.
FAQs
A Viking keypad membrane typically lasts 5 to 8 years in our heat, and an intercom speaker lasts 6 to 10 depending on sun exposure. West-facing pedestals age faster. If yours is in that window and acting up, a rebuild is usually the smart call rather than limping it along. Call (325) 252-5195 and we’ll tell you exactly what you’re looking at.
Keypads can often be rebuilt with new carbon contacts and membranes. Intercoms are less forgiving. A dead speaker element is a swap, but a failed intercom board usually means full module replacement. We’ll diagnose it on site and show you the cheaper option first if one exists. Call (325) 252-5195 to schedule.
Most keypad rebuilds and speaker swaps take under an hour once we’re on site. A full intercom module replacement takes around two hours, including testing the handsets and door strike integration. We quote the time before we start so you’re never surprised.
We stock common Viking keypad membranes, speakers, microphones, and faceplate gaskets for the E series and K series units. We also carry compatible parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If your exact model needs a special-order board, we’ll tell you the lead time before you commit to anything.
