Get your free estimateGhost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock Ghost Controls-compatible welding and fabrication parts on our trucks across San Antonio, and most installations run between $180 and $420 depending on the part and your gate’s setup. A typical welded bracket or hinge swap takes us under two hours once we’re on site. Most owners discover the problem when the gate starts sagging, scraping, or the opener strains against a cracked weld.

What usually happens is this: a weld fails slowly. The gate gets heavier on one side, the opener works harder, and one day the whole thing binds. By the time you notice the gate dragging, the metal has often been fatigued for months. Catching it early saves the opener from burning out, which is a much bigger bill.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls builds openers, not gates, so the welding and fabrication work we do involves the metal that the opener connects to: mounting brackets, gate hinges, post plates, and the arm attachment points. We fabricate and weld parts that match the Ghost Controls TSS1, TDS2, and AXP series openers, along with their older AXDP and GLD lines.
The compatibility gotcha with Ghost Controls is the arm geometry. Their opener arms mount at a specific angle and distance from the hinge, and if a replacement bracket is welded even half an inch off, the opener cycles unevenly and burns out the motor. We measure from the original mounting points and match the bracket exactly, because that half-inch matters more than most people expect. For the decision between OEM and aftermarket: Ghost Controls sells replacement hardware kits, but the metal brackets are often discontinued for older models. A quality fabricator can reproduce the bracket in steel that matches or exceeds the original gauge, and that’s what we do when OEM is no longer available.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side. The top hinge weld has stretched or cracked. The gate visibly drops when it opens, and you can lift the free end up and down by hand. That movement is the hinge pulling away from the post.
- The opener groans or labors when starting. A failed bracket weld changes the gate’s pivot point, so the opener is pushing against bind instead of a clean swing. The motor sounds like it’s working twice as hard for the same movement.
- You can see a crack in the paint or bare metal around a hinge or bracket. Rust follows cracks in San Antonio’s humidity, and that rust line is the tell. It starts as a hairline and widens every time the gate cycles.
- The gate scrapes the ground or catches on the drive when closing. This is often a hinge or post plate that has shifted after a weld let go. The gate is no longer riding at the height it was fabricated for.
- Fresh rust dust collects at the base of the hinge or bracket. Metal grinding against metal produces fine rust powder. If you see orange dust accumulating under a hinge, the weld or the plate is no longer solid.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In San Antonio, hinge replacement with fabrication runs $180 to $320 per hinge, including the new steel and welding. A full bracket and arm mount replacement for a Ghost Controls opener typically lands between $240 and $420, depending on how much of the original metal can be salvaged and whether we’re working on a single or dual swing gate.
You’ll get a written price before we start, and the number we quote is the number you pay. That price includes the fabrication, the welding, grinding the old material clean, and a rust-inhibiting primer on the new welds. Every weld is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a weld fails within the year, we come back and make it right, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do: note where the sag is, whether the gate is dragging, and which hinge or bracket looks cracked. Take a photo. That’s genuinely helpful for us before we arrive. What you shouldn’t do is attempt to weld a gate hinge yourself unless you’re an experienced welder with the right equipment. A gate under tension can shift suddenly when a weld fails, and a bad weld on a moving gate is a safety issue for anyone on the other side. The heat from amateur welding also warps thin gate frames, which creates a new problem while trying to fix the old one.
If the weld is cracked, call us at (325) 252-5195. We’ll look at the photos or come out, give you a firm price, and most San Antonio locations we can reach the same day.
FAQs
A professionally welded gate hinge in San Antonio lasts 8 to 15 years, depending on gate weight, usage frequency, and exposure to moisture. The original factory welds on many gates fail closer to the 7-year mark, especially on gates facing east where morning humidity sits on the metal. We prime and paint every new weld to slow the rust cycle down.
Sometimes. If the crack is small and the surrounding metal is still sound, we can grind it out and re-weld the joint. If the metal has fatigued or the bracket is bent, replacement is the honest answer. We’ll show you which situation you have before quoting either path, and the price is always in writing first.
Most single-hinge or bracket repairs take 1 to 2 hours on site. Fabricating a custom bracket for an older Ghost Controls model adds time, but we can usually complete that within the same visit. You’ll know the timeline before we start, not after.
We stock common steel stock, hinge plates, and bracket material for Ghost Controls openers, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing systems. If your gate needs a custom-fabricated bracket rather than a stock part, we’ll measure and fabricate it on the truck or in our shop the same day. Call (325) 252-5195 and we’ll confirm whether we have what your gate needs before we head over.
