LiftMaster access control installation in San Antonio typically runs $450 to $1,200 installed, depending on whether you need a keypad, telephone entry unit, or full card-reader system. We stock LiftMaster-compatible access control hardware and can usually schedule within a few days. Most homeowners discover the problem when a keypad stops responding after a storm, a reader stops recognizing remotes, or a gate simply won’t open from the outside anymore.

Access control is the “who gets in” layer of your gate system. It sits between the outside world and your LiftMaster opener. When it fails, the gate either ignores every code or lets in anyone who walks up. We see both in San Antonio neighborhoods, from Alamo Heights to Stone Oak to the newer developments off 1604.
Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To
LiftMaster access control spans a few distinct product lines, and matching the right one matters. The LiftMaster KPR2000 keypad and the LiftMaster 86LM receiver are the most common residential pieces we install. On the commercial side, the LiftMaster CAPXL telephone entry system and the LiftMaster SAM2 external antenna kit come up regularly for HOAs and gated communities.
The gotcha most owners hit: LiftMaster changed receiver technology over the years, and a keypad from 2012 doesn’t always talk to an opener from 2023. Older models like the 412HM receiver work on a different frequency than the newer Security+ 2.0 units. Before you order anything online, check the model sticker on your existing opener and match the access control device to that generation. Getting this wrong is the single most common reason a new keypad won’t program. We carry OEM LiftMaster parts on the truck and also keep quality aftermarket equivalents for discontinued models, so we can match hardware to your exact opener without a second visit.
We stock LiftMaster parts on our trucks, and we also keep compatible hardware from Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing for when a mixed system needs attention.

Signs Your LiftMaster Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts some codes but not others. The membrane contacts under the buttons corrode over time, especially in San Antonio humidity. Intermittent button response is usually the first sign a keypad is on its way out.
- Gate opens on its own or after a long delay. A failing receiver can pick up stray signals or lag on legitimate ones. We see this often near busy street intersections where RF interference is heavy.
- You hear a click but nothing moves. The access control unit is signaling, but the relay inside it has worn. The opener isn’t the problem; the access control output is.
- Codes reset or lose programming after power outages. Storms knock out power in San Antonio regularly. If your unit loses its memory every time, the onboard battery backup has failed or the board is going.
- You get shocked or hear buzzing at the keypad. This is a wiring problem, usually a nick in the low-voltage line underground. It can damage the access control board and should be looked at sooner rather than later.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For San Antonio homeowners, here’s what we quote on most LiftMaster access control installations:
- Wireless keypad replacement (KPR2000 or similar): $200 to $400 installed
- Receiver replacement (86LM, 41A1539, etc.): $150 to $300 installed
- Telephone entry system (CAPXL or equivalent): $900 to $1,500 installed, depending on conduit runs and power availability
- Card reader or full access control retrofit: $1,200 to $3,000 installed, depending on the number of entries and wiring
Every quote includes the part, the labor, programming for your specific LiftMaster opener, and a written price delivered before any work starts. You’ll see the exact number in writing before we touch anything. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation: if it isn’t right, we make it right. No argument, no fine print.
One thing we always flag during the quote: if your keypad failed early, there’s often a wiring or moisture issue behind it. We’ll tell you if we find one, and we’ll quote the fix separately rather than burying it in the parts price.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself before making the call. Confirm the breaker, test the opener with its own remote to rule out the motor, and look for visible corrosion or cracked housings on the keypad. If you have a multimeter, checking for 12-24 volts at the access control unit is within reach for most handy homeowners.
Here’s where DIY goes sideways: opening a keypad or receiver to inspect the board. Low-voltage access control isn’t as dangerous as a high-tension spring, but a wrong wire touch can short the board and turn a $300 keypad swap into a $700 receiver replacement plus a new board. We also see owners buy the wrong generation of LiftMaster parts online, then pay for a second visit to make it work. We’re happy to take the programming and installation off your hands. If you’re not sure whether to tackle it, call us at (325) 252-5195 and we’ll talk it through honestly.
FAQs
Expect 5 to 8 years from a LiftMaster keypad before buttons or the board start failing. San Antonio’s heat and humidity shorten that timeline sometimes, especially for south-facing gates with direct sun exposure.
If yours has been in service 6 or more years, replacement is usually the smarter spend than another repair. Call (325) 252-5195 and we’ll match the right unit to your opener.
Sometimes. Corroded wiring and failed relays can often be repaired for less than half the cost of a new unit. If the board itself is fried or the button membrane is worn through, replacement is the honest recommendation.
We’ll open it up, show you what we found, and give you both numbers in writing before any work starts.
Most keypad or receiver swaps take 45 minutes to an hour and a half. Telephone entry systems and card reader installs typically run 2 to 4 hours, depending on how much conduit and wiring has to be run.
We schedule a specific arrival window and let you know if the job looks like it’ll run over. Pets and nap schedules included in that conversation.
Yes. We carry keypads, receivers, and common access control boards for LiftMaster systems on the truck, along with compatible hardware for Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing.
If a specific generation or revision needs to be ordered, we’ll tell you that on the phone and give you the real timeline before scheduling anything.
